NC Countdown to College: The Basics, Using the Professional Center, and Best Practices for a Successful Month

The first session will give attendees an overview of NC Countdown to College (C2C) and College Application Week (CAW). This program is built for new and returning site coordinators and will offer tips and time for Q&A. In addition, speakers from CFNC Pathways will discuss how to use the Professional Center that month to stay organized and prepared. Lastly, NC school counselors will participate in a panel to discuss best practices to have a successful C2C month and successful CAW.

FAFSA Tools: FAFSA Tracker & Challenge, and Finish the FAFSA

This session will offer attendees information on the Finish the FAFSA tool as part of CFNC's Professional Center and the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority. Finish the FAFSA allows education professionals to track student FAFSA progression during their senior year of high school. myFutureNC will also present on the FAFSA Tracker & FAFSA Challenge, two of their major financial aid efforts.

Residency Determination Service: How RDS Affects Countdown to College and College Admissions

College Foundation, Inc. and the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority will present RDS experts to discuss how residency affects Countdown to College and college admissions during College Application Week and year-round. In addition, we will have a CFNC Spanish Service Representative in attendance to assist with questions related to immigration status and documentation.

College Application Week: Admissions Applications, Transcripts, and Fee Waivers

This session will focus on College Application Week, as it pertains to applications on, sending transcripts on, and fee waivers. Fee waiver discussions will include both those offered through during CAW, and offered through other organizations, such as College Board and ACT.

September 16th 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.

College Access and Covid-19: Keeping Students on Track and Excited for Postsecondary Education

K-12 mental health professionals and postsecondary student services staff will participate in a panel to discuss how Covid-19 has affected college access in North Carolina. Panel members will discuss keeping students on track and excited for postsecondary education, as well as mental health tips for students and financial aid planning. This panel will be open to audience questions and participation and aims to give hands-on tips to help with NC Countdown to College and college access efforts the rest of the year.
