North Carolina's EXTRA Education Loan
Due to financial market conditions and new federal regulations for alternative loans that went into effect on February 1, 2010 requiring extensive programming changes, College Foundation, Inc. has suspended North Carolina's EXTRA Education Loan Program effective February 1, 2010, until further notice.

  • EXTRA Education Loan Applications started on CFNC.org prior to February 1, 2010 but completed on or after February 1, 2010 may be approved as long as they will be disbursed PRIOR to May 1, 2010.

  • No new EXTRA Education Loan applications will be accepted on or after February 1, 2010.
While we sincerely regret the need to suspend making new loans in North Carolina's EXTRA Education Loan Program, recent increases in federal loan limits, along with Grad PLUS, may make this type of loan less necessary than when we first began offering an alternative loan.
Nevertheless, we are hopeful that this suspension will be temporary and that, in the future, we can again offer an EXTRA Education Loan for students who still need financial assistance after applying for all other available state and federal financial aid.
