| Description |
This Scholarship-Loan was established by the 2006 General Assembly to address a shortage of nursing instructors at the state's colleges and universities.
|
| Eligibility |
An 11-member Nurse Scholars Commission selects recipients for the NET award on the basis of superior academics, leadership potential, and desire to become a nursing instructor on a full-time basis in North Carolina. To be considered, candidates must:
- Have a minimum of a 3.2 grade point average
- Be North Carolina residents for tuition purposes
- Enroll in a masters degree program in nursing education or any other area of the nursing field that would permit them to become nursing instructors in an approved nursing program in North Carolina, OR enroll in a doctoral degree program in nursing education or any other area of the nursing field that would permit them to become nursing instructors in an approved program in North Carolina.
- Agree to teach in a North Carolina nursing program upon completion of the nursing education program supported by the loan. Recipients who do not fulfill the service obligation must repay the scholarship-loan in cash with interest.

1) For students enrolled in a qualifying masters degree program, the scholarship-loan is valued at $15,000 per year for up to two years 2) For students enrolled in a qualifying doctoral degree program, the scholarship-loan is valued at $15,000 per year for up to three years

| Application Procedure |
The program is administered by the State Education Assistance Authority. Remember that the financial aid office should be consulted as to the effect additional funding could have on a student's existing financial aid award.
Deadline for the 2008-2009 academic year is May 3, 2008.
All supporting documentation to the application (transcripts, reference forms, etc.) must be postmarked by the respective date listed above. The application data will be submitted electronically through the Scholarship Wizard.

| Other Information |
To be eligible for this program, students must be enrolled full time or must obtain 18 credit hours in one academic year (for non-traditional programs). A non-traditional calendar must consist of a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester or term (i.e. 6 hours in the fall, 6 hours in the spring, and 6 hours in the summer semesters).
