Description
Established in 1955 by a trust agreement of the late Aubrey Lee Brooks, these scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors from a 14-county area of North Carolina. The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority provides central administration for the Brooks Foundation.

Eligibility
Awards are made annually to 17 graduating high school seniors who plan to enroll as full-time students in a degree-granting program at North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, or the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Brooks recipients must permanently reside in one of the following counties: Alamance, Bertie, Caswell, Durham, Forsyth, Granville, Guilford, Orange, Person, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Swain, or Warren. One additional scholarship is awarded to a student from the cities of Greensboro and High Point and to a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics who is from an eligible county. Criteria include financial need, merit, leadership, character, and the will of the recipient to help himself or herself prepare for a career as a useful and informed citizen.

Value
The scholarship provides for an award of approximately one-half of the cost of an Undergraduate education. The maximum award for the 2008-2009 academic year is $8,000. Brooks Scholars may also receive funding for summer internships, research or study abroad and a one time computer allowance up to $3,000. The scholarship is renewable, provided the recipient has continued financial need, remains enrolled full time at an eligible institution, and maintains a 2.75 cumulative grade point average and good citizenship.

Application Procedure
Upon submission of the application, you will be provided instructions for submitting the PROFILE. Both the application and the PROFILE must be completed to be considered for the Brooks Scholarship Program. Please note that the PROFILE form requires a processing fee; fee waivers may be available for students who cannot afford to pay the fee. Applications for the 2009-2010 will be available at this site in December and the following deadlines apply to the program: Register, complete and submit the PROFILE no later than January 25, 2009; complete and submit the Brooks Application no later than February 1, 2009.
