| Description |
Established by industrialist N.S. Jagannathan, the scholarships were first awarded for the 1996-97 academic year. The Jagannathan Scholarship program is administered by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority.

| Eligibility |
The award is available to graduating high school seniors who plan to enroll as college freshmen in a full-time degree program at one of the constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina. Applicant must be a resident of North Carolina. Special consideration is given to students whose parents are employees of TIEPET, Universal Fibers, and related companies. Recipients are chosen by a central selection committee on the basis of academic achievement (as indicated by class rank, cumulative GPA, and SAT scores), leadership and financial need.

The maximum award for 2008-09 is $3,500. Award cannot exceed demonstrated financial need. Scholarship may be renewed for three years or six semesters if enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program, or four years or eight semesters if enrolled in a five-year undergraduate program. Recipient must have continued financial need, maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and must maintain good citizenship at an eligible institution.

| Application Procedure |
Applications can be obtained from the applicant's high school counselor's office, TIEPET, Universal Fibers, and related companies; or the financial aid office of one of the constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina in December. Applications must be submitted back to where the applicant received them for review. Applicant must be nominated by one of the following: TIEPET, Universal Fibers, and related companies; the financial aid office of one of the constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina; or by his/her high school counselor. Applicant must take the College Board Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT) and file College Scholarship Service's PROFILE. Student must register, complete and submit the PROFILE with CSS by February 8, 2009. The deadline for mailing the Jagannathan scholarship application to NCSEAA is February 15, 2009. Students who do not have documented financial need will not be considered for the scholarship. Students will be notified in May of their candidacy status.
