Hardware and Software Requirements

The www.CFNC.org website is designed to work properly with the following minimum browser versions:

  • Internet Explorer 6 for the Macintosh
  • Internet Explorer 6 for the personal computer
  • Netscape 7 for the Macintosh
  • Netscape 7 for the personal computer

Note: We recommend that the browser version be the most up-to-date version available to provide you with the latest patches and security fixes.

Support for Java, JavaScript, and cookies must be enabled in either browser and can be "turned on" via the Preferences dialog box in Netscape or the Internet options dialog box in Internet Explorer.

To access any secure portion of the website, your browser will need to support 128-bit encryption.

The website is best viewed with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768.

In order to view, print, or download the PDF versions of various documents (including online applications) on this website, Adobe Reader, Version 6.0 or higher is required. These files may not open properly with older versions of the plug in. Minimize risk when accessing Adobe Acrobat files by using the latest release of Acrobat Reader. Visit http://www.adobe.com/products/reader for more information.

If your computer utilizes Norton Internet Security, you may need to make a configuration change to your privacy controls in order to use the CFNC.org site properly. Click here for sample instructions to make the configuration change to the Privacy Controls within Norton Internet Security.

Another method would be to change the URL in your browser to read https://www.CFNC.org since some firewalls limit functionality when not already connected to a secure site.

Applying for and Using PIN

To apply for an electronic personal identification number (PIN), go to the U.S. Department of Education's website: http://www.pin.ed.gov/.  There is no charge for this signature option.

PIN can be used as a signature option with your online CFI Stafford Loan and Federal PLUS Loan applications. Signing an online loan application with PIN is possible with Netscape 6.x and 7.x as well as Internet Explorer 5.x and 6.x.

To safeguard your information, it will be encrypted during transmission over the Internet. To secure the privacy of your application data, we recommend you use a browser version with 128-bit encryption, which has enhanced encryption features. 128-bit encryption browsers are subjected to U.S. Export Administration Regulations and other U.S. law, and may not be exported or re-exported to certain U.S. embargoed destinations.
