Carolinas Food Industry Council Scholarship (CFIC)

Description
The Carolinas Food Industry Council (CFIC), a division of the North Carolina Retail Merchants Association, provides scholarships to students planning to enroll in accredited programs leading to employment in the food industry through the Retail Consumer Alliance (RCA).

Eligibility
To be considered applicant must:
  • Be a high school senior enrolling for the 2016 fall semester as a college freshman or college undergraduates enrolling for the 2016 fall semester as a sophomore, junior, or senior
  • Be a spouse or dependent of a permanent, full-time employee of CFIC retail, wholesale or Supplier Member Company (Employee must be employed for at least one year as of 1/1/16)
  • Be a student who at a minimum is a part-time employee of a CFIC Retail, wholesale or Supplier Member Company. (Student must be employed for at least six months as of 1/1/16)
  • Be a food industry employee, whether parent or student, working in a retail, wholesale or Supplier Member Company location in North or South Carolina

Amount
Forty (40) $2,500 scholarships. Scholarships are renewable and recipients can apply in subsequent years.

Application Procedure
  • Applications may be obtained by visiting www.retailpaysforcollege.org. Print and complete the application. If there is no computer access, call 919-832-0811 to have an application mailed
  • Send completed application and official transcript to:
          CFIC
          Attn: Scholarship 601 Saint Mary's Street
          Raleigh, NC 27605
  • Completed application packets must be postmarked by Monday, April 6, 2016

Other Information
  • Applicants will be evaluated by the following:
    • Academic records
    • Test scores
    • Extracurricular activities
    • Student employment
    • Recommendations (not required for application)
  • Winners are selected largely on the basis of academic merit
  • Recipients of the scholarship may attend college in any state but must be enrolled full time for the 2016 fall semester
  • Award recipients will be announced in June of 2016
