Before you apply for loans:

- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to
determine your eligibility for federal and state aid, including grants
and scholarships.
- Limit what you borrow by considering what you really need.
- Choose your loans carefully.
- Select low-interest federal loans first. CFI can help you with Stafford and PLUS Loans; other
loans may be available through your school.
- Use an alternative loan such as the EXTRA Education Loan only as a supplement to federal and state aid.

As an exclusive benefit to State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) and Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) members, you are eligible to receive a 0.50%
interest rate reduction on the EXTRA Education Loan from CFI. Click on the credit union name to
learn more about the credit union and member eligibility requirements. The member rate reduction
will be applied from the date of first disbursement and continue until the loan is paid in full
if all monthly payments are made on time once repayment begins. If we learn that you were
not a SECU or LGFCU member when you applied for this loan, the benefit will be cancelled
retroactively.
