Created by the General Assembly in 2006, the Nurse Educators of Tomorrow Program (NET) was established to address a shortage of nursing instructors at the state's colleges and universities. This program is a competitive, merit-based scholarship-loan program available to masters and doctoral degrees students to become nursing instructors at North Carolina public and private colleges and universities, and is administered by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA).
|
| Eligibility |
An 11-member Nurse Scholars Commission selects recipients for the NET award on the basis of superior academics, leadership potential, and desire to become a nursing instructor on a full-time basis in North Carolina. To be considered, candidates must:
- Have a minimum of a 3.2 grade point average
- Be North Carolina residents for tuition purposes
- Enroll in a masters degree program in nursing education or any other area of the nursing field that would permit them to become nursing instructors in an approved nursing program in North Carolina, OR enroll in a doctoral degree program in nursing education or any other area of the nursing field that would permit them to become nursing instructors in an approved program in North Carolina.
- Agree to teach in a nursing program at a North Carolina public or private college or university upon completion of the nursing education program supported by the loan. Recipients who do not fulfill the service obligation must repay the scholarship-loan in cash with interest.
NOTE: To be eligible for this program, students in traditional programs must be enrolled full time (9 or more credit hours per semester) or must obtain 18 credit hours (28 quarter hours) in one academic year for non-traditional programs. A non-traditional calendar must consist of a minimum of 6 credit hours (10 quarter hours) per semester or term (i.e. 6 hours in the fall, 6 hours in the spring, and 6 hours in the summer semesters).
