Description
Scholarships for eligible Vietnam veterans and their families.

Eligibility
Recipient must be a current resident of Wake County, Durham, Harnett, Lee, Franklin, Nash, Chatham, Johnson, or Granville counties in North Carolina who was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal for service in the Vietnam conflict, or a spouse, child, foster child, adopted child, grandchild, etc. of a Vietnam veteran. Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, sex, age, religion, or national origin for study at an accredited institution that offers degrees, licenses or certificates. Some awards are reserved for study at junior colleges and trade schools and for senior students who participate in the Lessons of Vietnam War.

Value
Scholarships are valued at $500 to $1,500 and may be used for any year of undergraduate study. Monies will be paid directly to the recipient for reimbursement of tuition, fees, housing, or books upon submission of receipts.

Application Procedure
Applications can be obtained by writing to: NCVVI Scholarship Coordinator, 601 Compton Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609 or by sending a request to ncvvi@nc.rr.com. Please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope if mailing the request. Applications must be received between January 1 and the last day of February. The applicant must provide a copy of the Department of Defense Form DD214 to document Vietnam service, a copy of the applicant's birth certificate and/or marriage license(s), as needed, to document kinship to a Vietnam veteran. A personal statement, a list of current activities and awards, and a short essay (450-600 words typed and double-spaced) on a topic relating to the Vietnam War. The essay topic will be sent to all who have requested an application or by sending a request to one of the addresses above. It will be ready sometime after Thanksgiving.
