Vocational Rehabilitation Program
|[Financial Aid Search]
|Financial assistance for college is available to individuals with a mental or physical disability which is an impediment to employment. Students must have been determined eligible for services with the North Carolina Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (NCDVR) and be under an Individualized Plan for Employment. Individuals must meet the NCDVR financial needs test for financial assistance to be considered and all available financial aid and resources must be considered and applied.
|In order to qualify for this program, a student must have a documented mental, physical or learning disability that is a substantial impediment to employment. They must be able to benefit from VR services in terms of an employment outcome and require VR services to achieve an employment goal that is consistent with their strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, and informed choice. Once eligible and rehabilitation needs have been determined, an Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) is developed with the student. The IPE is designed individually with each student. Assistance with vocational counseling, job placement, referral to disability support services, and other services such as interpreters, can be provided without regard to financial need. Financial assistance with the costs of tuition and fees, transportation, books, and room and board depends upon demonstrated financial need based on NCDVR Financial Needs Test and includes the student's award from other sources of need based financial aid.
|The amount of the assistance is based on financial need as determined by NCDVR and the type of program in which the individual enrolls and will vary between individuals and training institutions.
