| Description |
The Golden LEAF Scholarship for public university students is funded through a grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation. This scholarship is designed to assist current high school seniors, current North Carolina community college students and students currently enrolled at public North Carolina four-year universities. Current public university recipients of the Golden LEAF Scholarship can reapply for the 2009-10 academic year.

Priority for scholarships will be given to students from families adversely affected by the decline of the tobacco industry. The selection criteria for
applicants will not include the value of real property owned by farm families. Recipients of other scholarships amounting to 75% or more of the total
costs to attend a public university will be given low priority for a Golden LEAF Scholarship. Students who have earned four-year (bachelor) degrees are
not eligible for consideration.

| Value |
The Golden LEAF Scholarship is valued at $3,000 for the 2009-10 academic year ($1,500 for the Fall 2009 semester and $1,500 for the Spring 2010
semester). A total of 580 scholarships will be available for new and renewal students.

| Application Procedure |
The Golden Leaf Scholarship application is an electronic application that can be accessed by clicking the "Apply Now" link listed under the "Related Links" section of this page. The priority deadline for applying is March 15, 2009.
Applications from students renewing their Golden LEAF scholarships received at public universities, and for students transferring in Fall 2009 to four-year campuses from North Carolina community colleges will be accepted until funds are exhausted.
A completed application includes the following:
- The electronic Golden LEAF Scholarship application
- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - submitted as directed by www.fafsa.ed.gov.
